Board Member: 2 volunteer position available
ILS is seeking one new board member (Trustee position, non-office bearer) for our charity. Skill sets we are looking to recruit include those with a strong business, finance, legal and/or governance background. ILS will consider applications from all areas of Dumfries and Galloway. A brief overview is given below of our work and the benefits of volunteering. Independent Living Support
Role: Trustee – Board Member
Purpose of the trustee role
To act within governing documents and the law to support Independent Living Supports’ charitable interests.
Organisation purpose:
Independent Living Support promotes independent living and resilience skills to improve the life chances of an individuals. We support 16 plus age group helping with basic skills such as budgeting, personal care, relationship and communication building, learning and employability. We deliver our work through one-to-one and group settings.
Independent Living Support (ILS) core function is based on the work of a psychologist – Abraham Maslow – (Maslow Hierarchy of Needs) which focuses on basic needs and as each need is addressed it allows a person to progress. Our main outcomes are to build self-confidence and self-esteem to help in the person’s development, giving purpose and structure to their lives by embedding life-skills learning.
ILS have been a trauma informed service from its inception in 2002 and our clients are among some of the most vulnerable in society requiring emotional and mental health support and often than have significant lived trauma and experience e.g. substance misuse, care experienced, social isolation.
In 2021, ILS developed peer support and are embedding this ethos into our daily work across the service. The peer-to-peer learning allows for individuals to be guided by those that have had similar life experience and the work is facilitated by our experienced support workers.
ILS are looking for a Board member that can help ILS build on our strategy, and strengthen our work with vulnerable clients, allowing for our vital work to continue.
